By Tamar Borer in collaboration with Teder
A work that combines dance, live music, performance and video.
A piece for five performers – two musicians and three dancers:
Gal Tushiya, David Ovadia, Yussef Swied, Shira Borer, Tamar Borer
The work deals with the subject of water as a metaphor for different aspects in the human’s soul.
A few sources of inspiration served the work, among them:
The book of genesis, chapter 1, verses 6-8
“Messages from the water” by Dr. Masaro amoto
“The narrow way to Oku” by Matsuo Basho, the great Haiku poet
Cymatics by the scientist Hans Jenny.
The work reflects the journey of a nomad in different landscapes. Towards each step of his journey he must die and be reborn, in order to gain a profound understanding on his existence.
The movement is based on Butoh dance; a language that focused on a presence that reflects in a charged and intensive manner the soul’s wandering. The exterior form of the movement is driven and transformed in relation to the state of mind of the dancer.
The time concept in the work is based on the idea of stopping the daily time and finding time from a different dimension, in a constant change, without a structured pace.
The live music is constructed of sounds that are produced by analogue synthesizers to create sound surfaces that fluctuate between airy and sparse frequencies to low and thick ones.
In addition to the live music there is a vocal work of the dancers; like the movement, the voice erupts from the inner space of the body, evokes and reflects the performed music.
A video work by Gal Tushia is projected on the stage’s ‘altar’. The projected images, deserts, rocks and imaginary lakes, follow the human’s inner landscape.
The stage set is constructed of four clear bowls filled with dry ice, which during the show are being poured with boiling water by Shira Borer. This process creates an effect of smoky water ripples that spread in wide rounds on the whole stage.
In addition to the live music there is a vocal work of the dancers; like the movement, the voice is erupt from the inner spaces of the body, evokes and reflects the performed music.
Duration: 50 min.
“Tamar Borer together with four artists and one goldfish created a profound, concentrated and fascinating performance.
In the end of the show it seemed as if the audience was deeply hypnotized and could not get up from their chairs, as a sign of gratefulness and appreciation to this fascinating performance.” Zvi Goren
